Vodafone Offers Mobile Banking

Many of Vodafone’s UK customers can now access a basic range of banking facilities over their internet-enabled mobile phones, following the launch of a free (for now) service using the Monilink mobile banking network.

Customers who have accounts with banks such as Alliance & Leicester, HSBC and First Direct will be able to check their balances on their handset, as well as order statements and top up pay-as-you-go mobile accounts.

The service will initially be free, before the costs being reviewed early next year, with each bank deciding on whether or how much to charge.

To set up their mobile banking service, users enter their bank account details onto the Vodafone Mobile start page, and then a letter will be sent by their bank containing a pass-code which can be used to securely log in to the service.

Future member banks of the program are set to be Royal Bank of Scotland and subsidiaries NatWest and Ulster Bank.
